M-S Cash Drawer Information
M-S Cash Drawers are one of the finest made drawers available in the world. You will find that the roller mechanisms, key locks, steel construction of the body and the electronics within are made to last a lifetime. A number of sizes and colors are available. If you want a "Cash Register" look to your Point of Sale work station, the "M-S Cash Drawer and POS Deck" provides the perfect solution.
*Media Slots - Media slots are the horizontal slots located on the face of the drawer. Cash drawers may be ordered with or without media slots. The media slots allow a cashier to insert checks and coupons into the drawer without opening it. Media that is inserted via the slots falls inside, under the money tray and out of a customer's view when the drawer is opened. *Drawer Locks - Some models have a single lock in the center of the drawer and some models have dual locks, the additional lock can be found on the right side of the drawer and uses a different key lock than the center lock. Several drawers can be ordered with different key sets for an additional fee. *Cash Drawer Keys - For security reasons, keys for these drawers are not readily available, duplicate keys can not be made by your local locksmith. Each drawer comes with two keys per lock and additional or replacement keys can be ordered for a minimal charge. *Cash Drawer Sizes - See specific part number information for each cash drawer. *Inserts (Money Tray) - All cash drawers include a money tray in the price. The default money tray is standard for U.S. currency and has 5 bill and 5 coin compartments in all cash drawers. Extra money trays are available at a reasonable price. *Locking Lids - Locking lids are available upon request. They allow a cashier to remove and cover the money tray thus securing the currency and enabling the cashier to walk past customers without exposing the contents. *Mounting Brackets - Mounting brackets are available. They allow you to mount a cash drawer under a counter instead of placing the drawer on top of the counter. Cash Drawer Interfaces: *Printer Driven - (Solenoid Style) - This is the most inexpensive way to connect a cash drawer to your POS system, it requires the use of a 40 column receipt printer. This is the most common type of drawer in use today since most POS software supports the receipt printer and the cash drawer being tied to the same port. The drawer does not care whether the printer is serial or parallel. Further this type of drawer is simply a non-intelligent drawer with a solenoid that waits for voltage from the receipt printer to open. The drawer open code is determined by the particular printer used in your application. There are no instructions that come with these drawers since they are non-intelligent. Consult your printer manual for cash drawer open codes. The interface cable is included since it is hard wired to the internal solenoid and the type of connector on the end of the cable is determined by the model of printer. *Serial Interface Model - This is the next step up in price and is identical to the "Printer Driven" model except for the interface. This is a serial port drawer and can be plugged directly into any serial I/O port (COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, or terminal AUX port). The drawer can be ordered with either a DB9 female connector or a DB25 female connector. The Serial Interface drawer operates a little different than the Printer Driven model in that you open the drawer by sending any 8 ASCII characters to the serial port. Please note that the baud rate must be set to "300,N,8,1". Faster baud rates may be used but more characters will have to be sent. You should use this drawer when there is either no printer connected or when an 80 column printer is connected on a separate port. |
